Ushering in a brighter, more hopeful year, the Inuit Gallery of Vancouver is pleased to delight you with our most anticipated annual exhibition – Small Treasures 2021. On Saturday, January 23 the Inuit Gallery presents the 18th annual Small Treasures exhibition, featuring a wonderous range of works, many of which are small enough to sit comfortably in your hand. There are artworks from across the Arctic, including Kinngait (Cape Dorset), Qamani'tuaq (Baker Lake), Arviat, Gjoa Haven, Pangnirtung, Nunavik, and others. This year we have an impressive collection of vintage works and a wonderful selection of works from Kugluktuk.
There are wonderful examples of birds, bears, muskox, fish and many other arctic animals, vintage works, and several figures engaged in traditional activities, all in a variety of materials including stone, antler, bone and ivory.
You will find works by favourite artists such as Ningeosiaq Ashoona, Derrald Taylor, Taqialuq Nuna, and Pudlalik Shaa. Of course there are many others, including master artists Lucy Tasseor, Barnabas Arnasungaaq, Andy Miki, and John Pangnark from Arviat; elegant walking bears by Tony Oqutaq and Kooyoo Peter; a rare small format bear by Ashevak Adla; and delightful owls by Joanasie Manning. Several younger artists have been included in the collection, such as the always-unique Cape Dorset artist, Pitseolak Qimirpik, as well as Mathew Flaherty, Ottokie Samayualie and Cee Pootoogook. We are also happy to introduce many new talents who are keeping Inuit art traditions alive.
