Art is an exploration of humanity. Perhaps that is why we are so drawn to it, both as spectators and creators. It’s one of the few things that people can find a common ground in. That’s why the Deer Lake Art Gallery is proud to present this week-long pop-up exhibition, Something for Everyone with works by Gary Liemen.
No matter the situation, the time, or the place, art can always be enjoyed in all of it’s forms. While tastes can differ, individuals will always find something that they like. Whether it creates feelings of joy, or inspires, when it comes to art, there is always something for everyone. Hopefully that will be achieved through this exhibition.
Something for Everyone is a collection of paintings using various media: watercolour, chalk and pastels, and pencil crayons. He often employs unconventional tools such as string or razor blades to create artistic effects. These paintings will focus on landscapes, and cityscapes.
Gary Liemen began his artistic journey at a young age when he realized that formal education wasn’t for him. Recognizing that he had dyslexia, but lacking support from the educational system, Gary turned towards artwork. Eventually he enrolled in the Vancouver School of Art, under the tutelage of the famous Canadian Artist, Jack Shadbolt.
