Newzones is pleased to present “Spin Cycle Matrix,” a solo exhibition by Franco DeFrancesca.
Embedded in a vortex of hyperreal colours, “Spin Cycle Matrix” reverberates between visual opulence and tactile indulgence. Motifs and montages vibrate and pulsate in amplified saturation. Mesmerized by the sea of memes and messages propagating through media, these works idle between clarity and diffusion, in a synesthetic experience between sight, sound and sense.
As a multidisciplinary artist since 2004, DeFrancesca has been creating and exhibiting art and art projects ranging from sculpture/installation, photography, digital art, and sound art exploring narratives and representations that materialize notions of media, technology, history, and pop culture.
DeFrancesca explores digital media as a mode of creating abstraction in the form of an art object. He investigates the links between art and memory, history and technology, by using digital imaging as a means to navigate the territory between photography and painting, mixing references to photography, painting and display technology. These vibrantly coloured works represent reflections on contemporary visual culture charmed by minimalism and modernism, technology and futurism.
DeFrancesca has exhibited in Canada and the United States and his work can be found in private, corporate and public collections world-wide, including Cenovus Energy Inc., Repsol, GMP Securities, Encana, and Enbridge Inc., to name a few.
