Panagiotis Peter Sarganis, "Spoonful," 2019
Design: Alysha Creighton
An opening reception and artist talk will be held August 2, 7-9pm.
The Fort Gallery is pleased to present Spoonful, artist Panagiotis Peter Sarganis’ new exhibition of carved spoons presented in partnership with Lee Valley Tools. Sarganis, a painter and sculptor, got his first taste of spoon carving at a Lee Valley Tools Coquitlam workshop eighteen months ago and he hasn’t looked back since. In the ensuing months he has created over 150 hand-carved spoons ranging in size from a few inches to eight feet in length! Sarganis’ playful approach to spoon carving reimagines this ordinary object as sculptural forms. Viewers will be surprised by the variety, whimsy and beauty of these spoons.
Since that first workshop Sarganis has been enthusiastically spreading his love of spoon carving— teaching the art to his students at Langley Fine Arts School and to participants in LeeValley workshops where he is now an instructor. The Fort Gallery is excited to be hosting aspoon-carving workshop on August 25 where participants can learn to carve their own spoon while surrounded in Peter’s exquisite creations.
Sarganis will lead a spoon carving workshop at the gallery August 25, 12-5pm, see fortgallery.ca for registration information.
On August 23, 7-9pm, the gallery will host a concert with musical guest Issy Cendes. All are welcome to attend these events.
