During this uncertain time we would like to continue bring inspiration straight to you, by regular website updates, with art news and virtual exhibits, and old and new pieces that come our way.
Our intention is to bring some light into your day and create conversation amongst our online community during this self-isolation period.
My work has always remained centred around the figure, this obsession has taken me in a lot of different directions from attending dissections at art school in New York to doing Butoh performance where as figure painter I put myself out there, literally.
As this moment in time has caused us all to slow down and reflect I have come to further and deepen my commitment to the figure. My work is about form, I've been very influenced by Henri Focillon's book “The life of forms”, and I attempt to create work with an organic volume and presence.
Recently I have been working on a series of stylized figures, as well as a s new series of abstractions, which while going way out there start with a figurative base.
As most of my work is constructed from imagination I also work directly from life to keep my figure painting and observational skills intact. My favourite motif for that is the Monkeys - ironically my most classical work.
A Sock Monkey Exhibit was scheduled at Petley Jones Gallery for this April, but like so many things, these days - it's on hold. This will pass and I look forward to the future.
Stay safe love to you and yours, Thomas
