Whether it’s the kitchen table, a converted room, or a custom-built space, the studio is a private place for artists to explore their craft, passions, and whims. Filled with ideas, inspiration, and artworks in various stages of development, the studio can be a vulnerable place, which is why studio visits are normally reserved for a privileged few. Only select pieces will make it out the door, and even after an artist/curator/dealer has declared they are “onto something,” it could take months or even years before the work is seen in public.
Studio NOW subverts that cycle, and offers a peek at what’s happening in our artists’ studios right now.

Lori Lukasewich – in an age of immediacy, Lukasewich slows things down with her intimate oil paintings which reflect on perception and value
Lisa Matthias – fresh from a residency at the Banff Centre, Matthias’ intaglio prints explore connections between nature and technology
Verna Vogel – known for her cityscapes, Vogel delves deeper into abstraction, letting intuition guide her—beginning each composition with her eyes closed
Karen Klassen – combining illustrative and fine art techniques, Klassen recasts portrait painting with a feminist gaze and contemporary approach to the traditional genre
