Susan Point - Xal: Making Her Mark

Coastal Peoples Fine Arts Gallery 332 Water Street (Gastown), Vancouver, British Columbia V6B 1B6
Susan Point, Coast Salish, "Salmon Panel," 2016
red cedar wood, copper, 36" x 36"
While the word for 'art' in the Salish language doesn't exist, there is the word 'Xal' which conveys a feeling of making a mark.
This mark is meant to transform or reshape what already exists into a form that holds meaning and is visually appealing to the observer.
Award-winning, internationally-renowned artist Susan Point creatively makes her mark in every aspect of her work as she continues to make her mark in the world.
In conjunction with Susan Point's solo exhibition 'Spindle Whorl' at the Vancouver Art Gallery, we are proud to present our companion exhibition representing artworks featured at the VAG as well as the artist's past and present collection at Coastal Peoples Gallery.
On loan to the VAG are three panels - Baby Ferns; Beyond the Edge no. 25; and Up Stream Quest - from the Coastal Peoples collection.
Join us in celebration of Susan Point's life and work online or in person at our Gastown location.
