Susie Seeta Saila is a graphic artist based in Kinngait, NU. Over the last 6 years she has established herself as a standout emerging artist with works being exhibited around Canada. Madrona Gallery will be hosting her first Solo Exhibition of drawings. Saila has developed a distinct style gravitating to vibrant colours, patterns, and repetition. Through her strong graphic sensibility, she combines unexpected subjects; a landscape in an owl’s wing, an egg used for the body of a bird, or an ulu owl, all of which bring a fresh perspective to established subjects in inuit art.
Saila was born in 1998 in Ottawa, Ontario. She comes from a family of notable artists, Saila’s father Toonoo Sharky R.C.A, grandfather Meekeeseetee Saila, and great grandfather Pauta Saila R.C.A, are all internationally recognized for their carvings. Her work was featured on the front cover of Inuit Art Quarterly’s Winter 2021 issue.
