Sylvia Ziemann's Accidental Utopia is an exhibition of drawings and paintings that describe a fictional post-apocalyptic future in which animal-human hybrids construct a new world. Their society is non-hierarchical, and not burdened by racism and sexism, by capitalism or greed. After an unnamed disaster, citizens realize that survival depends upon experimentation, play and cooperation. Everything is tried, and most things are tolerated, but only the harmless and enjoyable are permitted to persist. This Utopic vision asks viewers to contemplate how they live their lives. What will lead to eventual disaster? What will lead to a positive future?
