Tactile, Rhythmic, Resonant—Groove Opens at ARTSPLACE Gallery
The Annapolis Region Community Arts Council invites you to get into the "Groove" with the 2025 Member Exhibition at ARTSPLACE Gallery—featuring work that explores rhythm, texture, and the physicality of making.
Artists were invited to consider the patterns and pulses that shape our experience of art—through carved, woven, or layered forms and through work inspired by repetition, vibration, or tactile interaction.
“Participants were encouraged to reflect on how grooves—literal or metaphorical—inform their materials, processes, and creative approaches, ” said Ted Lind, ARTSPLACE Board Member.
As the title suggests, the show emphasizes accessibility and inclusive, multi-sensory engagement. Works incorporate raised surfaces, textured layers, sound, and interactive elements. A guided touch tour will be offered to expand access for visitors who are blind, have low vision, or benefit from tactile engagement. Participating artists had the option to include their work in this tour or provide an audio description to support accessible interaction.
Artists responded to the theme across a wide range of media—from natural materials like wood, and clay to contemporary forms that invite movement and sound. Whether subtle or bold, structured or organic, "Groove" encourages reflection on the dynamic relationship between texture, rhythm, and the forces of nature. The show also considers the creative process itself—how carving, layering, or shaping becomes part of the work’s final expression.
A closing panel and artist talk will be held on Saturday, August 30 at 1 p.m., offering insight into the themes and methods behind the works on view.
Join us at ARTSPLACE Gallery to experience this compelling exploration of material, motion, and meaning.
