Join us in celebrating the opening of Takātuf: from Salish Seas to Palestine on Saturday, August 2, at the BCA flex space in Sun Wah Centre from 6-9pm
Takātuf is an exhibition and art sale featuring the work of 22 emerging artists from the West Bank, Palestine.
Nineteen months into one of the most brutal genocides of contemporary history, perpetuated through the use of Western weaponry and with the people of Gaza facing the most acute death and suffering, the question remains: what is the capacity for art to express these atrocities, from the heart of the atrocities themselves?
All the works of Takātuf: from Salish Seas to Palestine depict the Palestinian experience with a Palestinian brush. Takātuf brings artworks across colonial borders from the besieged West Bank to the unsurrendered, occupied territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, Tsleil-waututh Coast Salish peoples, to express in the heart of Western empire, the united Palestinian body. Takātuf contemplates the role of art in shaping narratives drawn from lived experiences, moving from art as merely a passive reflection, towards a vital force of change.
