In addition, The Ephemerals will open a commercial gallery within Urban Shaman's main gallery space. We endeavour to raise the profile of the sale and collection of artwork by professional contemporary Indigenous artists in Winnipeg, a city with a checkered past of commercial galleries and art sales. The historic impact of Daphne Odjig's New Warehouse Gallery on the contemporary Indigenous art scene, both locally and nationally, is undeniable and we aim to honour that legacy by promoting artists at a grassroots community level while developing relationships with potential collectors and art patrons. The exhibition as a whole will reflect the backgrounds of the collective members as artists and curators as well as sharing the spotlight with other Winnipeg-based contemporary Indigenous artists.Urban Shaman: Contemporary Aboriginal Art Gallery acknowledges the support, throughout the year, of our friends, volunteers, community and all our relations, NCI FM, Wawanesa Insurance, the Winnipeg Arts Council, the Manitoba Arts Council, the Canada Council for the Arts. ~MIIGWETCH / HAI HAI Urban Shaman Contemporary Aboriginal Art Gallery203 – 290 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3B 0T2T 204.942.2674 W http://www.urbanshaman.org
