Patrick Hughes, "Canaries in the Coalmine," 2020
detail, mixed media
In The Forecast, artists have created installation work that challenges the visitor to rethink their relationship with evidence. In this fast-paced news era, many get their news from social media, and believe what they see and read despite the warnings of manipulated messaging. Artists offer their evidence, manipulated or not, of the threat of climate catastrophe. Featured in this exhibition are Zev Tiefenbach, Patrick Hughes, Mary Thomas, Myrna Button, Kenneth Whyte, Vanessa Skotnitsky, Kristal Burgess and Aaron Leon.
This is the first exhibition the Art Gallery will be presenting following the Covid-19 shutdown. The exhibition schedule has received an overhaul, and new practices have been implemented at the Arts Centre to abide by protocols set out by WorkSafeBC and the Provincial Health Authority. Visitors are welcome to arrive by the front door, which will be entrance-only, and maintain 2m of distance between themselves and Art Gallery staff and other visitors. The maximum number of people permitted in the gallery at a time is 20.
The opening reception will be held outdoors on the front plaza of the Arts Centre. Staff and volunteers ask that the public to be patient while they navigate the new system of visiting the Art Gallery. Up to date information can be found on the website www.salmonarmartscentre.ca, and on social media @salmonarmartscentre. The exhibition has been generously sponsored by Joyce Henderson and Gabriele Klein.
