“What will the relationship between Canada and Indigenous people be like in the next 150 years?”
Thanks to the Saskatchewan Arts Board: Artist’s in Communities Grant”, The Next 150: Visions of Canada’s Future, was a result of an Sakewewak First Nations Artist Collective’s annual residency program “InRez 2016.”
To mark the occasion, the residency allowed the artist’s to reflect on their own experience and remark on the last 150 years of Canada’s relationship with Indigenous peoples and to imagine what the next 150 years would look like. From July 2016 to January 2017 InRez artists Paulette Poitras, Jamie Mareno and Bill Stevenson worked with lead artist Kevin McKenzie to respond to Canada’s 150th anniversary of confederation.
Additional works by Larissa Kitchemonia, Jason Baerg, Teresa Meer Van-Chaase, Nadya Kwandibens and Christi Belcourt were selected to compliment the work of the artists in residence.
