Real Vernon Youth Screen Short Films Locally Alongside screenings of internationally acclaimed youth-made films at the Caetani Cultural Centre
“The Reel Youth Film Festival is an opportunity for audiences to see the best of youth filmmaking while gaining insight into youth culture and the issues affecting young people today,” describes Festival Director Zoe Miles.
16 local youth, excited about filmmaking and interested in using film for social change, learned how to plan, produce, and edit in small teams over an intensive five days in a free video production program in Vernon, BC.
They created 5 short, issue-based films that will be screened locally in Vernon.
The local films include a documentary featuring Armstrong-raised drag artist Romi Kim, a youth response to vandalism of a community rainbow crosswalk, a music video about the power of music, a documentary about the ethics of coffee, and, just for fun, a scary movie set in the Vernon woods.
Come meet the filmmakers and enjoy an intimate screening of their work as well as some of the best youth film making from around the world on Wednesday September 25th, 6:30pm at the Caetani Cultural Centre’s Studio Gallery.
“The world looks very different to young people 19 and under. We have films from Iran, Lithuania, South Korea, and India, and they give us rare insight into the next generation of leaders, change-makers, and visual artists. They’re also so compelling, funny, courageous and inspirational,” enthuses Miles.
