The Salish Weave Collection: Works on Paper, is an exhibition featuring works from a private collection of contemporary Coast Salish art donated to the BAG’s Permanent and Education Collections. The Salish Weave Collection includes work by Andy Everson, Maynard Johnny Jr., lessLIE, Luke and John Marston, Chris Paul, Susan Point, and Dylan Thomas, artists who embrace the practice and revival of Salish art, drawing upon traditions and stories of their cultures, while challenging the definition of Salish art as they explore contemporary forms and techniques.
The collection stems from and resides mainly on traditional Coast Salish Territories. The purpose of the Salish Weave Collection is to support and promote awareness of artists who are contributing to the revival of Coast Salish art. Many of the pieces have been exhibited and distributed to museums, galleries, universities, libraries, schools and other institutions across the Coast Salish territory.
