Darkness meets light. The energy of a city.
STATEMENT
At the time of these pieces, I was fascinated by cityscapes. I’d lived in two major cities during the previous two years; Vancouver and Calgary. Having lived in much smaller places before that, meant a big shift in perspective.
I was also fascinated by people. There was a greater sense of anonymity than I was used to. People seemed to act differently because of it. The energy in these cities was vibrant and depressing and exciting and competitive and creative.
Observation became my pastime – I would leave my apartment and walk and stop and stare at buildings and the light hitting them at all different times of the day. I put those images to memory.
These snapshots were then brought down to their simplest form. Colour became my medium of feeling and energy.
And so the series was born…
