"The theme of this exhibition is 'Threadscapes' where I have explored the varied landscapes I have observed in Canada and England. From detailed English garden borders to the sweeping vistas of natural inland to coastal scenery, I have interpreted these diverse landscapes using fabric and threads. My current process begins by selecting photographs I have taken of places that give me a sense of peace and tranquility. These images are then printed on cotton fabric and stitched over using a sewing machine, resulting in a technique that gives definition and texture to the piece and results in an interesting 3D effect.
I believe we are profoundly defined by the places we have lived in or visited. Whether we are drawn to the sea or to the summits of mountains certain places draw us back in time to be remembered and cherished. Through my art, I attempt to capture certain moments and my emotional connection to them. Simply looking at a landscape ignites the signals between the eyes and the brain. We become absorbed in our surroundings and build layers of questioning and analysis on what we observe. Through my work, I want to draw the viewer into a space of quiet reflection; giving each individual an escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and connecting them to the world in which we live."
