Omip.Pip by Emmanuel Ho is an exploration of visual music to a track created by local musician Valiska. This piece lacks structure, instead moving smoothly and responsively with the music it draws its inspiration from.
Membrana Mortis (Dead Film) by Kyle Whitehead is a chaotic assemblage of re-photographed and chemically manipulated image fragments culled from damaged rolls of film. This film was commissioned by the Independent Filmmakers Cooperative of Ottawa with support from the Canada Council for the Arts for Origin 8, a program commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Super 8 film format.
BUILT by Maziar Ghaderi is a collection of filmic impression throughout the United Arab Emirates through which it examines the magnitude and cost of building a megacity. Minarets and skyscrapers span the dome of the perfectly cloudless gradient sky, emphasizing the sharp divide between the surrounding arid desert and bustling city.
Broadcast Lab (formerly Gallery of Media Arts) is an exciting micro-cinema programming at Arts Commons that supports experimental films, video art, animations, and short documentaries.
