Opening Reception: Thursday, August 22 at 6:30 p.m. 

In Translations of Han, mihyun maria kim reflects on the notion of “han,” an untranslatable Korean affect associated with historical unresolved grief. Visitors will witness generational impacts from experiences of war, displacement, poverty, loss of collective identity and family divide. A quiet, immersive space which includes an interactive area provides visitors with the opportunity to reflect on feelings evoked by the work.

mihyun maria kim's exhibit includes inherited objects, installations, photographs, video, sound, fabric, poetry and mixed media pieces, and she will activate part of her work through performance at the public reception. The artist would like to acknowledge the support of the Canada Council for the Arts.
