Opening Receptions: Friday, March 2nd 5-9pm & Saturday, March 3th 2-5pm
For the March 2nd opening reception the Bees invite guests to come in their very best Canadian/Tuponian attire from 5-9pm to enjoy a special TUPONIA cocktail. An exclusive formal reception will take place at 7pm for the Emperor and Empress of TUPONIA along with performances from Phillip Bandura.
In the 1800’s TUPONIA was short-listed as a potential name for Canada, an acronym for The United Provinces of North America. Bee Kingdom glass collective’s Ryan Fairweather and Phil Bandura have imagined what it would be like walking around as Tuponians. Tuponia is a blown glass exhibition themed around our northern culture infused with the fantastical ring of Tuponia's name. This new body of artwork fantasizes about an alternative northern land where marshmallows have feelings, Ghost Yetis lead secretive lives in the forest, and where you might even spot the elusive, majestic, Moosacorn!
