Celestial Passage is an augmented reality by Uii Savage that uses the AGA’s main hall as a simulated observation site for viewing North American Aerospace Command (NORAD) satellite data in real-time. Visitors can navigate a data portrait of orbiting traffic amongst artificially-generated angels. The work blends fantasy with reality to address globalization and the complexity of space politics. This augmented reality is superimposed onto planetary symbols fixed onto the walls of the hall and re-presents information to audiences while rendering visible the unseen but intensifying forces that occupy the public domain of space.
Organized by the Art Gallery of Alberta and curated by Lindsey Sharman.
