Unpacking IKG: 60 Years a Gallery, 2018
Opening Reception: Friday September 28, 2018 from 5 until 8 p.m.
ACAD’s Illingworth Kerr Gallery is commemorating their 60th anniversary with a retrospective exhibition entitled, Unpacking IKG: 60 Years a Gallery. This exhibition explores their elusive 60-year history which has never been profiled before. The exhibition includes material from their extensive archive such as documents, photos, artwork from the ACAD collection, video, and other ephemera.
A timeline running through the exhibition will contextualize events and programs in the gallery and ACAD alongside major events happening in Alberta, Canada and internationally. As well, the timeline will outline the history of the college from when it was part of the Provincial Institute of Technology and Art in 1916, its autonomy from SAIT in 1985, and culminating to the present day as they transition from a college to university and reveal a new name and brand January 2019.
The exhibition will be complemented with a series of public programs including weekly gallery tours hosted by subject matter experts focusing on topics such as design (pre and post digital), art theory, history of craft, journalism and role of art writing and art criticism, and more.
To coincide with Alberta Culture Days, ACAD and the IKG will be hosting additional tours, workshops and events that are free, family-friendly and open to the public from Friday, September 28 until Sunday, September 30
