Opening Reception Saturday, November 25 from 2 to 5 pm.
Velma Foster, a noted printmaker and arts activist in the late 1960s and 1970s is teaming up with sculptor and printmaker Katie Ohe to show what two inventive and highly skilled artists were up to as young women and good friends in Calgary in the 1970s. This exhibition of their early work including richly coloured serigraph prints will be a visual feast as both artists were on the cutting edge of optical printmaking in the province.
“Over fifty years ago, two young art grads in Calgary were turning heads with their bold geometric 'optical' prints. Teasing the eye with colour, movement and above all inventive skill. All done when the making of such art by hand in the city was barely known. This is Sixties art at its hippest.” - Curator, Mary-Beth Laviolette
