In the Upstairs Gallery:

Tension: No Tension is inspired in part by a childhood memory of string art kits popular in the 1970’s: you followed the instructions and ended up with a recognizable image, for example an owl. Unlike those kits, this site-specific work utilizes a non-linear process to explore delicately balanced tensions with string, and ends up with two- and three- dimensional drawings which span the gallery walls. There are no recognisable owls…although sometimes there is a floating feeling of wings unfolding.
