"Weaving the Midnight Sun"
Presented by the Northern Fibres Guild
"Weaving the Midnight Sun" is a celebration of fibre practice in the Yukon — a region shaped by long winters, luminous summers, and the steady rhythm of handwork passed between generations. This exhibition brings together the work of artists and makers from the Northern Fibres Guild, an organization that has supported and nurtured Yukon fibre artists since its beginnings in 1974.
Rooted in traditional techniques like spinning, weaving, dyeing, and felting, and expanding into contemporary interpretations of textile art, these works speak to the resourcefulness, creativity, and quiet resilience of making in the North. Each piece carries a unique story — of material transformed, of time held in stitch and thread, of ideas shared in community.
Like the midnight sun itself, these works radiate warmth, clarity, and a sense of wonder. They invite us to consider the power of slow, intentional creation — and the ways in which fibre connects us to the land, to each other, and to the long thread of creative practice that we continue to weave together.
