Opening Reception: Saturday, July 26, 2025 | 2 - 4pm
Woodland Gestures is a collaborative exhibition by Lara Felsing and David McGregor that explores our deep connections with the natural world. Through their work, both artists invite us to think about how we live alongside and depend on the ecosystems around us.
Lara, based in Edson, Alberta, and David, from Goodfare, Alberta, each spend time closely observing and interacting with the forests near their homes. While their artistic styles are different, they share a common focus: being present with the land and honoring its value, both locally and beyond.
This exhibition highlights the meaningful ways the artists connect with nature. Sometimes this means gathering physical materials like plants or forest objects. Other times, it involves collecting images—like the shapes left by wildfires or patterns made by animals and insects—to show the beauty and mystery of the forest.
The works in Woodland Gestures invite viewers to slow down and notice the small, often-overlooked details of Alberta’s forest ecosystems. At the same time, the exhibition recognizes the complexity of nature—its cycles of growth, decay, change, and renewal.
