The Works Art & Design Festival is returning to Edmonton’s Churchill Square and multiple venues across central Edmonton, Alberta, to celebrate its 40th anniversary with Ground Works, running from June 21 to July 1, 2025.
Over 11 days, the heart of the City will come alive as more than 100 visual artists transform indoor and outdoor places into vibrant, interactive art spaces. The festival has partnered with more than 18 galleries, venues and events around Edmonton, including the Ortona Diaspora group exhibition, CO*LAB, SNAP, and more, extending the festival’s reach across the city.
Festival-goers will experience everything from intimate, small-scale installations to massive, larger-than-life pieces, alongside immersive art activations that engage all the senses – sight, sound, and even smell! A live music stage will feature daily performances, adding an extra layer of energy to this FREE, family-friendly festival.
“For 40 years, The Works has been a platform for connection—between artists, audiences, and the city itself,” says Amber Rooke, Executive Director of The Works. “Ground Works celebrates that legacy by digging into the roots of creativity in Edmonton and building new ground for the future. We’re thrilled to welcome everyone back downtown to celebrate the power of art in public space.”
To launch this milestone festival year, The Works’ staff, volunteers, supporters, and friends—along with community members—are invited to a special 40th birthday celebration on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at The Works International Visual Arts Society (10635 95 Street, Edmonton).
