Zuzana Riha: Mist and Mystery
to
Revelstoke Art Gallery 320 Wilson Street, Revelstoke, British Columbia V0E 2S0
Zuzana Riha, wildlife portraits and recycled bike tires sculpture.
Getting outside is good for the soul. Through my artwork, I try to create a deeper connection to the creatures whom we share our Revelstoke wilderness and community with.
I believe it`s extremely important for us to recognize that alongside these creatures, we are equally dependent on our resources, and need to respect each other's spaces. My paintings and sculptures attempt to connect you with these soulful expressions and feel the similarities we share as sentient beings. We are incredibly fortunate in admiring the fierce beauty, and freedom of our wilderness. It's ultimately how we strive to live.
As I see it, anything can be turned into art. You just need to look at things differently, and utilizing unwanted or discarded objects just makes sense in this day and age. Thank you for taking the time to connect.` -Zuzana Riha
I have paintings, (mostly contemporary wildlife portraits) and some large sculptures. The sculptures are life-sized black bears, salmon and a raven in a nest. All are made from salvaged, recycled bicycle tires. It seemed a good fit for our community, which is well known for our many bears, and growing mountain bike community. I also love the statement it makes, of creating art from discarded materials, which in turn impact wildlife and our environment.
Many of the paintings in the show are also in 3-D, and viewing glasses are provided for the gallery viewer.
