Looking for something to see, to do, to read? We have suggestions here at Galleries West.
Let's start on the West Coast, with a stop in Burnaby, BC. “Stepping into Kim Kennedy Austin’s solo exhibition, Booster Club, at the Burnaby Art Gallery feels like entering a time capsule from the mid-to-late twentieth-century North America,” writes Galleries West contributor Lin Li. Read more about this exuberant, colourful show, on view till April 20.
Speaking of colour, Edmonton writer Megan Klak also has good advice for those of us facing grey skies and snowflakes this week: “Step out of Edmonton’s grey downtown streets into Erika Germain’s show A Hope to Wish For on A Star – on at Latitude 53 until April 19 – and enter a world awash with colour.”
More colour! One of Canada's top painters, Ron Moppett is marking his 80th birthday this year with an exhibition of bright new and recent works. The show, ALBUM: Ron Moppett @80, runs through April 26 at TrepanierBaer Gallery in Calgary.
The FLASH Photographic Festival — Manitoba's largest lens-based art festival — is underway now across the province, with many events and exhibitions to check out.
In Toronto, Nigerian-Canadian artist Oluseye’s first major installation is at the Art Gallery of Ontario now through July 2026. The show's sense of scale is magical, writes Shazia Hafiz Ramji; read more here.
Looking for new book to read? Paul Gessell recommends Worlds On Paper: Drawings from Kinngait, a collection of stories and essays about Kinngait, an Arctic community where a quarter of the population are artists.
Of course, there's always plenty of news, too. Let us know if there's anything newsworthy and art-related in your region. And as always, thanks for reading.
