Feeling patriotic? Me, too. The Canadian Art Hop is coming up soon — a wonderful opportunity for Canadian art lovers to show their support for artists and galleries across the country. More than 90 galleries are participating this year. Find out more here.
Speaking of Canadian galleries and artists, Lissa Robinson takes us to see Wish You Were Here, an installation by Lauren Crazybull on view at Contemporary Calgary until Nov. 2.
Indigenous artist, activist and scholar George Clutesi is the subject of GEORGE CLUTESI: ḥašaḥʔap / ʔaapḥii / ʕc̓ik / ḥaaʔaksuqƛ / ʔiiḥmisʔap, on view at Legacy Art Gallery Downtown in Victoria to July 26. Presented by the University of Victoria Art Collections, the exhibition name is partly written in the c̓išaaʔatḥ language in honour of the late artist and was first shown at Bill Reid Gallery in late 2024-early 2025.
You're not alone if you've never heard of Alan Glass. But in Mexico, this late Canadian artist is a big deal, says former Galleries West editor and frequent contributor Paul Gessell. And now we can see Glass's work in Canada this summer; Worlds of Wonder: The Surrealist Journey of Alan Glass is on view at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts now through Sept. 28.
If you're looking for a lovely read about "the poetry of everyday objects," Agnieszka Matejko reviews Apples on a Windowsill by Edmontonian Shawna Lemay.
Finally, if you've ever thought about going to art school in, say, Toronto or Calgary — but you live in another country — we have some suggestions from international students who studied in Canada, in our story, Thinking of Becoming an International Student?
Are you making plans for the summer? Anything art-related that you'd like to share with us? We'd love to hear about it. And as always, thanks for reading.
