Saskatchewan artists Deborah Potter, Leesa Streifler and Sheila Nourse are featured in III, a new exhibition at the Art Gallery of Regina.
The show takes place Jan. 23 to March 29. The opening reception takes place Friday, Jan. 24 from 5 to 7 p.m.
“Titled for the three ‘I’s — the three individuals who create from their personal perspectives — III addresses themes of aging and female identity,” according to the news release. “Each artist uses her favoured media and distinctive approach: figural drawing (Streifler), ceramic sculpture (Potter), and found object assemblage (Nourse).”
“III invites viewers to appreciate hidden experiences and complexities of aging and female identity.”
Born and raised in Winnipeg, Streifler holds a bachelor of fine arts with honours from the University of Manitoba, and a master of fine arts from City University of New York. Now living in Winnipeg, she taught painting and drawing at the University of Regina for more than three decades.
Nourse lives and works in Regina, Sask. and uses assemblage and collage work addressing themes of domesticity and the family, the body and the unconscious.
Potter holds a bachelor of fine arts from the University of Regina and uses sculpture to interpret female experiences.
The show — and the work — is clever and creative, getting people to think about aging and women and life. ■
