2025 Sobey Art Award Longlist Released
The National Gallery of Canada and the Sobey Art Foundation have released the names of the 30 artists longlisted for this year’s Sobey Art Award.
The 2025 Sobey Art Award longlisted artists are:
Circumpolar: Darcie Bernhardt; Tarralik Duffy; Megan Jensen; Shirley Moorhouse and Mathew Nuqingaq
Pacific: Charles Campbell; Hazel Meyer; Michelle Sound; Charlene Vickers and Tania Willard
Prairies: Christina Battle; Molly JF Caldwell; Erika Jean Lincoln; Jessie Ray Short and Chukwudubem Ukaigwe
Ontario: Sandra Brewster; Christian Chapman; Sarindar Dhaliwal; Morris Lum and Shellie Zhang
Quebec: Joyce Joumaa; Michelle Lacombe; Leisure (Susannah Wesley & Meredith Carruthers); Malena Szlam Salazar and Swapnaa Tamhane
Atlantic: Hangama Amiri; Erin Hunt; Megan Samms; Miya Turnbull and Nelson White
The largest cash award for artists in Canada and one of the biggest in the world, the Sobey Art Award will see a total of $465,000 in prize money distributed in 2025. "In addition to the $100,000 prize awarded to the winner of the Sobey Art Award, each of the five short listed artists are awarded $25,000 and $10,000 is awarded to each of the remaining long listed artists," according to the Sobey Art Foundation.
The six shortlisted artists will be unveiled on June 3; they will also be featured in an exhibition at the National Gallery of Canada Oct. 3, 2025 to Feb. 8, 2026.
