James Oscar, Anique Jordan, Sandra Brewster
A new round of awards have been presented by the Canada Council for artists, musicians and writers across Canada, including:
- The Canada Council for Photography Prize: Sandra Brewster will receive $8,000 “for her compelling explorations of identity, memory, and place through photo-based and multimedia art.”
- The 2025 Joan Yvonne Lowndes Award: James Oscar will receive $3,500 “for his boundary-pushing curatorial work and art criticism, rooted in anthropological research and a commitment to global South perspectives.”
- The Joseph S. Stauffer Prizes: These awards are presented to emerging or mid-career artists who “stand out for their strong artistic potential in their respective disciplines.” Anique Jordan is this year's visual arts winner “for her powerful visual and performance art that challenges dominant narratives through Black surrealism and speculative history.”
