Canada House Gallery Marks 50th Anniversary
Canada House Gallery in Banff, Alta., celebrates its 50th anniversary this month.
The gallery will celebrate with an open house on Nov. 23 from 2 to 6 pm.
More than 30 artists will be in attendance, including Rod Charlesworth, Sheila Kernan, Richard Cole, Elizabeth Harris, Nikol Haskova, Tobias Luttmer and many more.
“We’re so excited,” says Shannon Thoren, the gallery’s assistant director, who mentions that many past staff will also be attending the Saturday celebration. “We’re really excited to have everyone come together and be with the artists.”
Coming up in 2025, the gallery team is working on plans for an increased number of exhibitions as well as some public art installations in Banff, Thoren notes.
“The contemporary art market is blossoming and we are planning a lot more exhibitions focusing on that,” she says. “We are really looking forward to it.”
Canada House Gallery was established in 1974 in Banff, Alta., by Peter and Marika McCaffery. Their daughter, Barbara Pelham and her husband Eric Pelham took the gallery over in 2000. In 2018, they sold the gallery to Tien Huang, whose affiliate galleries include Bau-Xi Gallery in Vancouver and Toronto, as well as White Rock Gallery in White Rock, B.C. and Foster/White Gallery in Seattle, USA.
Canada House Gallery focuses on Canadian, Indigenous and Inuit artists who specialize in painting, sculpture, jewellery, print and textiles. The gallery offers art consultation, delivery and installation in the Bow Valley Corridor and Calgary, as well as shipping services and custom crating.
