Dominic Lloyd has been named as the new executive director of the Winnipeg Arts Council.
He will begin his new role March 3, 2025.
Lloyd began his career in the Yukon, working with organizations that include the Yukon International Storytelling Festival and The Dawson City Music Festival, where he served as artistic director from 1998 to 2004. He moved to Winnipeg to become the West End Cultural Centre’s artistic director.
Lloyd joined the Winnipeg Arts Council in 2010 to manage the city’s year as Cultural Capital of Canada. He then transitioned into the role of program and arts development manager, overseeing grant programs and providing guidance to people and groups seeking support.
He launched the city’s Poet Laureate program and the Indigenous Arts Leaders Fellowship, and he managed programming for the 2014 Year of Urban Ideas and City of Song, celebrating Winnipeg’s 150th birthday in 2024.
“The arts are what brought me to Winnipeg over 20 years ago and they are a fundamental part of what makes this place what it is,” said Lloyd in a news release.
He replaces Carol A. Phillips, who retired in 2024.
