Dr. Zoe Whitley has been named as the curator of the 2025 Art Toronto Focus Exhibition.
Based in London, England, Whitley is a curator and writer with two decades of experience working in Britain’s museums and galleries. She co-curated the touring exhibition Soul of a Nation: Art in the Age of Black Power (2017-2020), curated the British Pavilion at the Venice Biennale in 2019, and edited the 2024 book on Barkley L. Hendricks, solid!
"I am perpetually excited by the contemporary artistic practices and creative thinking nurtured in Canada, reverberating globally,” Whitley said in a news release.
“Whether serving on the Sobey Art Award jury in 2024 — a particular privilege as the only non-artist juror, or working closely with artists such as Lotus L. Kang and Abbas Akhavan abroad, it's thrilling to be able to work with Art Toronto on an international showcase that brings together Canadian artists and voices across the globe in the context of multicultural Toronto."
Whitley will bring together art from participating Art Toronto galleries to create a special section for art collectors to view and buy. The 26th Art Toronto will take place Oct. 23 to 26 at the Metro Convention Centre in Toronto, Ont.
