The Edmonton Arts Prizes were announced this week. The annual awards are presented to Edmontonians for their exceptional work in music, visual art, film and literature.
Raneece Buddan is the winner of the Eldon and Anne Foote Edmonton Visual Arts Prize.
Runners-up include Cheyenne LeGrande ᑭᒥᐊᐧᐣ and Heather Shillinglaw.
Buddan is a multidisciplinary Jamaican artist of Afro-Caribbean and Indo-Caribbean ancestry. Her show, Adorned in our Threads was presented at the Art Gallery of St. Albert. Her work includes oil painting, woodworking, clay sculpting, ceramics, resin casting, printmaking and weaving.

Each of the four primary prize recipients will receive $15,000, while two secondary prizes of $5,000 will go to each runners-up.
The Edmonton Arts Council coordinates the prize program in partnership with the City of Edmonton and community partners that include Alberta Media Production Industries Association, Alberta Music, Audreys Books, CARFAC Alberta, Edmonton Community Foundation and the Writers’ Guild of Alberta.
The Edmonton Arts Council is a not-for-profit organization that supports and promotes the arts in all aspects of community life in Edmonton.
