Heidi Hubner, founder and owner of Wallace Galleries in Calgary, Alta., died May 24, 2025.

Born in Berlin, Germany, Hubner opened Wallace Galleries in 1986. Before that, she curated and directed exhibitions at Gold Design Fine Arts. “Breaking barriers as a woman in the art business in the 1980s, she proved to be a formidable and resolute entrepreneur,” reads her obituary.

“She created close bonds with her artists, helping them grow and succeed in their careers. She was known for her honesty, devotion, and for encouraging her artists. She formed friendships with artists and clients, many of whom became lifelong friends.” 

She is survived by her family and many friends, including her daughter Colette Hubner, who became director of the gallery in 2004.
