Canadian illustrator Jillian Tamaki will be awarded an honorary Master of Fine Arts degree on May 28 at Alberta University of the Arts in Calgary.
Based in Toronto, Tamaki graduated from the Alberta College of Art and Design (now AUArts) in 2003. She is now a practicing artist, illustrator and educator at The New School and School of Visual Arts in New York City. The recipient of two Governor General’s Literary Awards for her work in 2014 and 2018, she has received many awards for her illustrations, including a Caldecott Honor in 2015. Her lengthy list of clients includes The New York Times, Disney, MoMA, Marvel and The Guardian.
