MacKenzie Art Gallery Launches Free Digital Toolkit for Interactive Art Exhibitions

The MacKenzie Art Gallery has launched its Digital Exhibition Toolkit & Art Installation Launcher (DETAIL.)
The free resource has been created “to empower more artists, curators, and galleries to produce their own interactive digital art exhibitions,” according to the news release.
“As digital artists continue to evolve, and push creative boundaries, galleries and exhibition design have not moved at the same pace. Digital art is often compromised to fit into a physical gallery or relies on ambitious, tech-savvy curators to produce labour-intensive boutique solutions to present digital art in its intended format. Over the past three years, the MacKenzie Art Gallery collaborated with digital artists and guest curators to address this problem, resulting in DETAIL, a toolkit that dramatically reduces the barrier to entry for curators seeking to produce their own digital exhibitions.”
The new toolkit provides exhibition templates for beginners, unity game engine plugins for customization, and comprehensive development workflows and documentation. It is designed for multiple exhibition platforms, including web browsers, mobile devices and virtual reality.
“All DETAIL resources are available for free through the MacKenzie Art Gallery website. The toolkit will be accompanied by detailed documentation from pilot exhibitions, offering practical guidance on its applications in professional contexts,” according to the release.
