Royal Ontario Museum CEO Stepping Down
Josh Basseches, the Royal Ontario Museum’s chief executive officer will quit his position by the end of 2025, according to a story this week in the Globe and Mail.
Basseches has been in the role for close to 10 years. A search for his replacement will start immediately.
“Canada’s most-visited museum is in the midst of a $130-million transformation billed as OpenROM,” according to the Globe and Mail story.
“Launched under Basseches’s watch, it’s intended to reimagine much of the ROM’s main floor, redesign its Bloor Street West entrance and add 6,000 square feet of new gallery space.”
In May 2025, the ROM announced a $30-million donation from the Temerty Foundation for expanding community engagement.
“With the museum well-positioned for its next chapter, this feels like the right moment for me to head towards new challenges and seize new opportunities,” Basseches said in the release.
