The new Marianne and Edward Gibson Art Museum (The Gibson) at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, British Columbia, will open Sept. 20, 2025.
The new space will be the university’s first purpose-built gallery and will consolidate what has previously been known as SFU Galleries. It will also house the SFU Art Collection of more than 5,800 works connected to the region.
The new gallery's first show will be a group exhibition, Edge Effects. It features the work of 12 new and rarely seen works by Canadian artists, including 10 commissions. Featured artists include Liz Magor, Lorna Brown, Justine A. Chambers, Patrick Cruz, Lucien Durey, Sameer Farooq, Elisa Ferrari, Germaine Koh, Pietro Sammarco, Debra Sparrow, Jared Stanley, and Jin-me Yoon. Cindy Mochizuki’s Arboreal Time will also be on view.
The 12,100-foot gallery was designed by Siamak Hariri from Toronto’s Hariri Pontarini Architects, in partnership with Vancouver’s Iredale Architecture.
