Vancouver Art Gallery Makes Major Cuts
The Globe and Mail has announced the Vancouver Art Gallery is making major cuts to staff and programming — roughly 30 per cent of its expenses and work force.
The cuts affect all areas of the gallery and come at a time when attendance and revenue are at a 15-year low point.
“Every single department is being impacted,” co-interim chief executive officer Eva Respini told The Globe and Mail in an interview. She said they will “leave no stone unturned” in the search for savings.
Staff were offered voluntary departure packages last week. Layoff notices are expected today, June 30. The number of layoffs is not yet known.
Respini and Sirish Rao, who were named interim co-chief executive officers after the departure of Anthony Kiendl earlier this year, are overseeing the cuts. No search is underway to replace them, according to The Globe and Mail story.
