Le7-en k tucw? (Secwepemctsin for "How Are You?"), an open exhibition for artists working in all media to express how they are feeling on a 24" x 24" surface.
Each year there is an opportunity for people to participate in an open exhibition at Salmon Arm Art Gallery. "Making art is a chance for people to express how they feel about whatever issues are top of mind," says Curator Tracey Kutschker, "so this exhibition gathers some of those voices and presents the stories as a collective."
Cultural Consultant Louis Thomas recommended the title for the exhibition, and hopes that artists use Secwepemc words in their titles to help express their feelings. FirstVoices.com is an excellent resource for learning words and phrases in the language of this land, and is an introduction to understanding more about Secwepemc culture.
The Coffee Break and Artist Talk is on Thursday, July 18 at 2pm. Visitors can enjoy fresh baked cookies and locally roasted coffee while hearing from the artists about their work. Everyone is welcome, and admission is by donation.
