The Alberta Society of Artists is pleased to present the solo exhibition L’automatisme with a cultural identity featuring the work of Alberta artist Michael Kiré.
“Common elements in nature pervade many places across the world. Without the artist’s personality added to the Art, we fail to read a geographical origin. Michael began to think what makes Canadian Art Canadian. As we celebrate Multiculturalism, it is obvious that elements from his ethnic background is an additional layer adapted to the study.
The works of the Surrealists are similar, in that they are derived from the automatic practices with the `writing’ stream mostly based on the Latin alphabet script. There is no racial connotation to an Asian ethnical focus. This exhibition shows an Asiatic cultural influence on the concept by merging the disciplines of automatic drawing and writing.”
Meet the artist: Monday, July 1, 12:00-12:30 pm and Wednesday, July 31, 10:00–11:00 am.
The Alberta Society of Artists is the oldest society of juried professional artists in the province, providing art education and exhibitions in public venues since 1931. The Society’s goal is to increase public awareness and appreciation of the visual arts in Alberta.
