Bison Archive is an exhibition of paintings, drawings, sculptures, photographs and etchings completed over the past ten years by interdisciplinary artist Adrian Stimson. Many of the works have been exhibited at the Mendel Art Gallery, Art Gallery of Grande Prairie, Fort Calgary, Art Gallery of Southern Manitoba, Glenbow Museum and in Paris, France. Adrian lives and works in Saskatoon, SK.
The Bison is an icon that the artist holds dear. As a Blackfoot person, the Bison is the central icon of social, physical, spiritual and emotional life. The historical slaughter forever changed the way of life for the Blackfoot, yet Bison are resilient. This exhibition is a testament to Adrian’s historical and contemporary connection to the Bison.
Adrian was awarded the Blackfoot Visual Arts Award in 2009, the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal in 2003 and the Alberta Centennial Medal in 2005 for his human rights and diversity activism.
