Courtesy of Alberta Craft Gallery.
As a celebration of Alberta Craft and to bring new energy and visitors to our gallery and community we are creating a collaborative mural to wrap our building. Our Mural was planned to coincide with the Works Art and Design Festival in Downtown Edmonton.
As part of the Mural Launch Street Party the public will be encouraged to meet the muralist Emily Chu and her team of mural apprentices. Everyone is welcome to participate in a free hands on mural painting as we transform the wooden beams surrounding our parking along 102 ave into a vibrant bench and extension of the mural. Attendees can partake in free face painting, music, and making with our craft community. The first 80 participants will receive a free Mural themed reusable tote and join in artists lead workshops to personalize your Alberta Craft Mural swag bag.
Our Feature Exhibition Ornament & Crime was developed to inspire the mural, and celebrates adorned, decorated, patterned and ornamented excess. 46 artists from across Alberta and Canada are featured in this hyperbolic spectacle of exaggerated adornment with all the delightful trimmings they can muster. During the Mural Launch Street Party we will host free guided tours of the Exhibition, and a number of the artists will be in attendance.
