Alli van Gruen
The Ferry Building Gallery is pleased to showcase original acrylics by Alli van Gruen in the Lower Atrium of West Vancouver Municipal Hall.
Alli van Gruen received her fine arts diploma from the Ontario College of Art and Design (OCAD) in Toronto, Ontario. Part of her studies included a year abroad at the college's satellite campus in Florence, Italy. It was in Italy that she was able to explore and get comfortable with her expressionistic style in both oil and acrylic paints. Since then, colour and texture figure quite prominently in her paintings. Painting for Alli has always been a process of exploration and discovery. Using her intuition and imagination, she applies layer upon layer of multiple colours to achieve the desired ethereal affect in her work.
After graduating from OCAD, Alli moved out west to marry and took a break from her painting career to settle into a new home and raise a family. She has now lived in Whistler for over 20 years with her husband and two children.
Alli's days are filled spending time with family and friends, exploring the outdoors and looking for creative inspiration. Alli works from her studio in Whistler, BC, and her works can be found at Art Junction Gallery, Whistler and in many private collections across Canada.
Admission is free.
