Arlene Wasylynchuk: Selected Works 1995-2011
to
Scott Gallery 10411 124 St, Edmonton, Alberta T5N 3Z5
Arlene Wasylynchuk (1947 - 2012) was an Edmonton based artist whose career spanned several decades. She viewed art as a way to find connections to our environment, in our relationships, and to our shared humanity. Her paintings reconstruct nature, reassembling it through multiple layers and perspectives that compel the viewer to search for subject, meaning, and intent. Formal aspects such as mark making, colour, and composition become narratives for the complexity of our relationship to our environment – pulling the viewer in to explore and contemplate the fractured elements of the environment. The work included in this show, are not only about the sublime, but also about the emotional and the responsibility we have towards the environment.
